Region Mont-Tremblant

The Laurentian region is located northwest of Montreal, just minutes from the metropolis. The Thousand Island River is its natural border to the south and the boreal forest with its lakes to the north. As well, the area is bounded by the Outaouais, Lanaudière and the Quebec-Centre regions. The topography of the region is very diverse and characteristic of the southern part of the Canadian Shield, forming a landscape of lakes and mountains to the plains of St. Lawrence. The total population of almost 500,000 inhabitants is scattered over some 20,560 km2 of landmass.

François-Xavier Garneau invented the name “Laurentians” in 1845 to remind us that the rock masses, which form a part of this zone, follow a course parallel to Saint-Laurence River. Its three major rivers, the Lièvre River, Red River and North River, have always been used as routes for the fur trade and later to float logs to the sawmills downstream. They are reminiscent of Antoine Labelle, the forefather of the colonization of these lands and today are the delight of water sports enthusiasts of canoeing, kayaking and boating.

Region Mont-Tremblant

A hallmark of the Laurentians is its economic dynamism. The region attracts literally anyone trying to escape urban stress or wanting to establish his or her future in an astonishingly natural environment. The region is ideal for tourism; Mont-Tremblant, for example, is one of the most popular tourist destinations in North America. The development of the region and the improvement in its quality of life has contributed greatly to population growth.
